처음 미국에서의 제일 어려운 점은 언어 소통의 문제였다. 그래서 먼저 미국인 친구들과 어울렸다. 그들과 함께 스터디, 레스토랑, 파티장, 야구장 관람 등을 다니면서 영어실력이 많이 향상되었다.
미국학생들은 자기관리가 철저하고 전공분야에 있어선 열성적이었다. 특히 여학생들은 약한 모습이나 성차별을 찾아 볼 수 없었다. 처음엔 문화적 차이로 무시당하기도 했지만 Rec 센터에서 동료들과 매일 농구를 하면서 나 자신의 의지를 다졌다.
학과 공부는 리더쉽교육학, 비판적 사고학, 전문 의사소통 기능, 미국 문화와 역사에 대해서 수학하고 있지만 리더쉽 교육에 많은 흥미를 느끼고 있다. 나에게 항상 도움과 용기를 주시는 교수님께 감사드린다.

I came to U.S.A at August 22. I was so heart flutter. I started to listen to English and met the coordinators, Wesley and Tha. First time, I didn’t hear their saying. So I did not understand that meaning. I am had lots of tension. But this problem gradually gets better.
Nowadays I can hear the English and a little understand about their saying. Taylor who is my best friend helps me until understanding of the English. He usually meets me for playing and has lunch and dinner. We went to lots of restaurant and enjoy house party. I have ever lots of experience because of him. And I learned game rule.
For example, when we went to football game, he told me about football rule. When we played billiards, he told me about billiards rule too. We talk about lots of things. Things are ‘what is your major?’, ‘what do you like?’, ‘what is your hobby?’, ‘what is your area of interest?’ and ‘Have you ever came to Korea?’. When I talk with Taylor, I am improving my English skill. And Taylor told me about American culture, common sense of living and careful things and I experience lots of things about his talking. I really like freedom.
Most American doesn’t look wits. Korean looks lots of wits. So we show concern about them. But America is so different from Korea. They concentrate only themselves and don’t have them eyes on other people. So our behavior and fashion is free. I’m deeply in free. But when I went to school at MU, I was surprised by American acts. They have Good manner. They hold a door open when we enter a building. And they always thank for someone’s small favor. And they always apologize about their mistakes. I’m so impressed with their behavior. But I have unpleasant memories by some American. When I go to Rec Center for playing basketball, they ignore me. I unavoidably take this ignore into consideration. However, I don’t settle for the present.
I try to study English very hard and exercise. I found some common characteristics among people until living here. First, I focus on looking America university students. They study their major hard. I could see them anywhere. And they do self-management hard where I could see them Rec Center. Also, when I went to Rec Center, I could see playing basketball with women and man. It seems women don’t think they are weaker than men. In fact, I have experience about playing basketball with women. They were so strong and not different with men. They were so good player. I seems to have no sexual discrimination. I like America language. I was impressed with intonation. Korean language don’t have intonation. Just talking. So I felt hard conversation. But here is the fun conversation because of intonation. It Looks like a living dialogue.I think that I living English because I like this life. When I went to Rec Center for exercising, when I Went to class and when I did anything, I took about lots of practical English.
For Example, when I was playing basketball, we took about basketball and simply introduce ourselves. so I was felt that I live English also more improve my English Skill. I think that also my friend would like to come to America. I learned to live English. Not Simple English. I’m living English more exciting than studying English. I satisfy this life and living English.
I have five class of this program. There are Leadership class, critical thinking class, professional communication class and American culture and history class. Some classes are a little hard but almost class is so exciting and I satisfy. Leadership is a little hard. I don’t know well about leadership. However I learned good leadership through good teacher. First time, critical thinking class and American culture and history class are a little hard. I couldn’t understand about that I heard teacher telling in English. But nowadays, I can hear something in English well and I can say my opinions in English. I feel so proud because I looked more and more growing myself. My Favorite class is professional communication class. This class is so comfortable and funny. Teacher always help and encourage me. I satisfy this language process.
